How this site handles data

Privacy policy

No accounts, no forms, and no data collected from you directly. This site does run analytics and show ads, both described plainly below.

Reviewed against published state sources on August 21, 2026. Rules and figures change — always confirm with the agency before acting.

Ready to file? Returns are filed with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, never through this site.Log in to Online Services →Opens ols.tax.ny.gov, the Department's Tax Online Services Portal — the shortest route to Sales Tax Web File, which is otherwise several clicks deep. Sign in with your NY.gov ID; Web File itself cannot be bookmarked and is only reachable once you are logged in. New vendors can create a Tax Online Services account from the same page.

The short version

This page covers filenewyorksalestax.com, an independent reference for New York State and local sales tax. It is a plain static website: no accounts, no login, no contact form, no newsletter, no comments and no shopping cart. We do not ask you for personal information and we have no way to collect it from you directly. Two things happen automatically in the background — anonymous, aggregate traffic measurement, and ads served by Google AdSense — both described below.

What we do not collect

  • We do not ask for or store your name, email address, postal address or telephone number.
  • We do not ask for or store any tax identification number, business details or financial information.
  • We do not sell, rent or share personal information, because we do not hold any.

Calculators

The combined state-and-local rate calculator on the rates page runs entirely in your own browser using JavaScript.

The numbers you type are never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and they are not stored. Close or reload the page and they are gone. They are not sent to Google Analytics either.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-SHPK8C25HP) to count page views and see which pages people actually read. When a page loads, the Google tag sends Google a record of the page viewed, the referring page, your device and browser type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.

We use it only to see aggregate traffic. We do not use it to identify individuals, we have not enabled Google Signals, advertising features or remarketing, and the account's data-sharing setting for “Google products and services” is switched off, so this data is not shared with Google for advertising personalisation.

Google's handling of the data it receives is governed by its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Advertising

This site shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technology to serve ads, measure how they perform, and limit how many times you see the same one. Depending on your location and consent choices, some ads may be personalised using information Google has about you from other sites and services; where required by law, a consent banner asks before any personalised-advertising cookie is set.

You can review and adjust the ad settings tied to your Google Account at myadcenter.google.com, or opt out of personalised advertising across participating sites generally at aboutads.info/choices. Opting out does not stop ads from appearing here — it only stops them from being personalised.

Cookies, and how to opt out

The Google Analytics tag sets two first-party cookies in your browser, _ga and _ga_<id>, which distinguish one visitor from another for counting purposes. Google AdSense separately sets its own cookies to serve and measure ads, described in Advertising above. Beyond analytics and advertising, this site sets no cookies of its own — there is no login or session cookie, because there are no accounts.

You can opt out completely by installing Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, by blocking googletagmanager.com in a content blocker, or by using your browser's Do Not Track or tracking-protection settings. Nothing on this site depends on analytics — every page, table and calculator works identically with the tag blocked.

Web fonts

The typefaces used here (Source Serif 4 and Inter) are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers to fetch the font files. Google's handling of those requests is governed by its own privacy policy.

Server logs

This site is hosted on a third-party hosting platform. Like virtually all web hosts, that platform records standard technical request data — IP address, timestamp, the page requested, the referring page and the browser user-agent string — for security, abuse prevention and operational purposes. We do not use those logs to identify individuals. Handling of that data is governed by the hosting provider's own privacy policy.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new review date.
