PrompTax is mandatory where your sales and compensating use tax liability was more than $500,000 in the June 1 to May 31 period immediately preceding the previous June 1 to May 31 — a two-year lookback, so the year being measured is further back than most people assume. The Tax Department writes to you if you are required to join. Not enrolling when you are mandated risks a $5,000 penalty, plus $500 for each additional month or part of a month.
If none of that applies to you, your deadlines are on the ordinary due dates page and nothing here is relevant.
The rule
The Department puts it in one sentence: the filing and tax payment due date is three business days following the 22nd of the month you are reporting. If that lands on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday it moves to the next business day — though counting in business days means it rarely has to.
Each payment covers two part-months
This is the part that catches people, because the period is not a month. Each payment carries the tax due for days 23 to the end of the previous month, plus the tax due for days 1 to 22 of the current month. So a payment is a 23rd-to-22nd window, not a calendar month, and the two halves sit in different months.
You still file quarterly
PrompTax is a payment programme, not a filing one. You still file Form ST-810 through Sales Tax Web File each quarter to reconcile what you have already paid. The quarterly deadlines are unchanged, and the 2027 calendar lists them.
Every PrompTax payment date for 2026 and 2027, with a reminder two days before each one. Download the calendar (.ics) — it opens in Google Calendar, Outlook and Apple Calendar.

Estimated or actual
PrompTax participants may pay on an actual basis, remitting what was really collected in the period, or on an estimated basis worked out from the prior year. The choice changes what you owe on each of the dates above but not when they fall. Check the current rules with the Department before switching method — this is a reference page, not advice.
Where these dates come from
They are computed from the Department's own rule and the federal holiday calendar, not copied from a PDF. A state legal holiday that is not a federal one can still move a date, so confirm against the Department before you rely on one.
